Telecommunication Scaffolding – Scaffold solutions for the Mobile Telecoms Industry.

Scope Of Works:

Vodafone & their partners called on Hercules Nationwide to provide nationwide telecommunication scaffolding solutions across a variety of difficult to access buildings, masts & monopoles.

This was a large scale, high profile project that involved the installation of a considerable quantity of specialist telecommunication scaffolding.

Working during the pandemic as key workers, Hercules Nationwide provided nationwide telecommunication scaffolding to provide access for telecommunication Engineers to maintain and upgrade Vodafone’s critical telecommunications infrastructure.

The works were not to interfere with the day to day running of the SP’s properties and noise was to be kept to an absolute minimum.

Challenges:

Design solution to accommodate the General Public (Residents, Students, Visitors, Contractors) Still using the buildings whilst the roll-out programme was in operation
Restricted Working Hours & Strict Covid Prevention Procedures
Every care to be taken to ensure that any noise was kept to an absolute minimum
Working in the winter months, consideration given to high winds & potential for ice
Time sensitive schedule to fit in with the programming of the SP’s & Client
To meet all the key performance targets (KPT’s) as set by Vodafone, SP & Client

Strategy:

Before the works began, Hercules Nationwide undertook Physical Site Surveys & held pre-contract meetings with the client to ensure that the scope of the works was fully detailed and understood.
Prior to commencing and going on to site, we carried out our own internal pre-start meeting to fully brief all teams as well as review method statements, risk assessments and the schedule of works.
We drew up a CAD Engineer Drawings where required for specific sites with a detailed specification and design with all necessary loading and anchoring detail to TG20:13.
The scaffolding was installed as per: SG4:15 – Preventing Falls in Scaffolding Operations
SG34:17 – Guidance on Protection of the Public
Drop Zones – Hercules Drop Zone Policy
The Client and Hercules project directors signed off the methodology / RAMS / SSOW so that all operatives and stakeholders fully understood the processes involved.
The works were supervised by Gold Card Supervisors / SMSTS throughout.

Result:

The roll-out project was completed on time and to budget.

All the telecommunication scaffolding for difficult to access buildings, masts & monopoles were completed to TG20:13 and handed over to the main contractor to enable them to complete the 5G upgrades.

Hercules’ experience with similar nationwide telecommunication scaffolding contracting enabled the Client to complete the programme on time. Hercules Nationwide were thanked by the client post completion for achieving all the Key Performance Targets (KPTs). Hercules team’s experience meant that we understood the client’s requirements and had the skills and capabilities to deliver the project on time and to a very high standard.
